Why Your Website Isn’t Converting (And How to Fix It in One Hour)
If your website isn’t generating leads, bookings or enquiries, it’s not doing its job.
And no, it’s not because your logo needs updating or your design is outdated. Nine times out of ten, it’s because of these three things:
The messaging is unclear
There’s no obvious CTA
The visitor doesn’t trust you
Here’s how to fix all three, in under an hour.
Problem 1 - Your Homepage Isn’t Clear
What most business websites say:
“We’re a dynamic, full-service solution-focused company delivering excellence to businesses across the UK.”
Useless.
What it should say:
“We help [specific type of business] solve [specific problem] with [specific outcome].”
Be clear about what you do and who it’s for — within the first 3 seconds of landing.
Fix It:
Step 1:
Rewrite your headline.
Use this formula:
“We help [X] achieve [Y] without [Z].”
Example:
“We help consultants book more sales calls without running ads.”
Step 2: Add a single sentence under it expanding on how.
“Using systems, automation, and practical growth coaching, we turn confused messaging into consistent marketing.
Done.
Problem 2 - You’re Not Telling Visitors What to Do
No CTA = no action.
And if you have multiple CTAs (“Book a call” / “Download this” / “Subscribe here”), they compete. A confused visitor always says no.
Fix It:
Step 1: Pick ONE CTA.
Either “Book a call” or “Download a lead magnet”. That’s it.
Step 2: Place it:
Top of the homepage (above the fold)
Mid-way down
Bottom of the page
Step 3: Use benefit-led wording:
“Book your free strategy call”
“Get the free marketing fix kit.
Problem 3 – You Haven’t Built Enough Trust
Your website visitor doesn’t know you. So why would they trust you with their business?
Your job is to make it impossible not to trust you within 60 seconds.
Fix It:
Include all five of these elements:
A short personal intro with a photo
Be human. “I’m James. I help service businesses build growth systems that actually work.”
Testimonials
Even two lines from a real client is better than nothing. Bonus if you include a name + company + logo.
Logos of clients or accreditations
Instantly boosts credibility.
One short case study
Just answer: “What problem did the client have? What did we do? What happened?”
Clear CTA with low commitment
“15-minute free call. No pressure, just practical advice.”
Optional Bonus – The ‘Website Bar Test’
Open your homepage on your laptop.
Now show it to a mate at the pub.
Ask them, with no context:
“What do I do?”
“Who do I help?”
“What should you do next?"
If they hesitate, rewrite it.
